Parts interpreter/ Manager


Due to the growth of our team, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Parts interpreter/manager to join our reputable marine engineering and maintenance business, based in Taren Point. As a Parts Interpreter, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our parts department, managing inventory, and providing exceptional customer service. If you have a passion for marine industry, possess strong organisational and leadership skills, and thrive in a fast paced environment, we would love to hear from you.

You will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the parts department including inventory management, ordering, pricing and stocking. Your prior knowledge will allow you to develop and implement strategies to optimise our parts department efficiency and profitability.

You will be involved in:

  • Maintaining accurate records of inventory, sales and customer transactions using our software system
  • Monitor inventory levels of standard stock items to ensure adequate stock in available to meet customer needs
  • Collaborate with service technicians and sales to identify and source required parts

No two days will be the same with you being involved in assisting customers with parts enquiries to finding the right parts through your extensive knowledge and relationships with parts vendors.

You will be able to demonstrate outstanding customer service, with strong organisational and inventory management skills. Your attention to detail and accuracy will see you succeed in our team.

REPORTS TO: General Manager
DIRECT REPORTS: Team leaders, marine technicians and office/administration
KEY RELATIONSHIPS: General Managers, Operations Managers, Finance and Administration, HSEQ, HR, Client representatives, Contractors




POSITION SUMMARY:

The Parts Interpreter/Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the operations of the parts department. The primary role is to ensure the availability and efficient distribution of parts required for maintenance, repairs and production purposes within the marine industry. This role is responsible for inventory management, purchasing, sales, customer service and staff supervision as required. It is crucial to ensure the timely availability and efficient distribution of parts to support maintenance, repair and production activities.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


Inventory Management

  • Implement inventory control strategies to ensure optimal levels of stock while managing stock costs
  • Monitor stock levels, track parts usage, and forecast future inventory needs
  • Conduct regular audits and stocktake to maintain inventory accuracy
  • Managing deliveries and dispatch
  • Manage internal parts supply and allocation


Purchasing

  • Identify reliable suppliers and negotiate favourable terms, pricing and delivery schedules
  • Place purchase orders for parts and related supplies
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with vendors to resolve issues, expedite orders, and ensure high quality products


Sales/Customer Service

  • Assist customers in identifying the correct parts for their requirements, providing product knowledge and guidance
  • Process parts sales orders accurately and efficiently, utilising appropriate systems and documentation
  • Handle customer enquiries, complaints and returns in a professional and timely manner
  • Collaborate with the sales team to identify upselling and cross-selling opportunities


Staff Supervision/Training

  • Participate in training and supervising parts department team
  • Grow roll and team as business continues to grow

Requirements

  • Ability to work independently, self -manage and problem solve 
  • Take responsibility for tasks 
  • Loyal and hard working with honest and strong work ethic
  • Take pride in all work performed
  • Able to work as part of a team and mentor upcoming apprentices
  • Have own tools
  • Are in possession of a valid Driver’s License
  • Have completed a White Card
  • Criminal Background Check (which will be conducted by us)




Onboard Engineering is looking for a qualified Diesel Mechanic / Auto Electrician Heavy Vehicle / Plant or Marine Mechanic / Outboard Mechanic to join our ever expanding team of over 20 employees.

Our head office is located in Taren Point with an additional workshop in Burraneer Bay Marina. You would also have the opportunity to travel up and down the east coast. We have a dynamic and inclusive culture, that will encourage your professional growth and development

We employ qualified tradesmen that receive ongoing factory training for all of the above. 

A company vehicle may be supplied after probation period.
