Tropika is a Sea Ray 60 Sun Dancer with a pair of 1100 HP MAN V10 Classic CRM engines. The vessel was originally sold by the late Andrew Short of Short Marine, and after years of service in Sydney, Australia, it was relocated to Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia under its own power. The vessel is now utilised as a charter boat for majestic sunset tours and live-aboard cruises in the beautiful Kota Kinabalu location. Years later, we were called to Kota Kinabalu to investigate oil leaking from the cylinder heads. Once removed, we found damage to the pistons and liners. The port engine was removed from the vessel, and a complete overhaul was completed in a makeshift workshop in Sutera Harbour Marina. Utilising local cranes, machine shops, the assistance of the marina maintenance staff, and facilities, this job was turned around in four weeks. This is an example of how Onboard Engineering can mobilise and carry out jobs in remote locations at short notice.
